Robert A.Kretschmer P.E , Wayne County, District Traffic Engineer was recently awarded the 2019 District 4-0 Charles M. Mattei Award.
The award honors employees in Charles’ memory with the Charles M. Mattei Award. In order to receive the award an employee must have 10 years of service with PennDOT, participate in PennDOT as a whole, be involved in the community, be willing to go above and beyond the normal job description and have safety as a top priority in the workplace.
Robert A. Kretschmer demonstrates these qualities.
Before he was promoted to Permit Engineer, Robert worked in Liaison to aid with ongoing projects. Robert was part of the implementation for the new Electronic Permitting System (EPS) for occupancy permits where he set up training sessions for utility companies and engineering firms to create an easier transition to the new system.
As a Permits Engineer, Robert has been challenged with many tasks related to costumer care, seasoned engineers, and property owners who were unaware of the requirement for a Highway Occupancy Permit.
Robert continues to educate engineers on how to perform their tasks and provides regulations to property owners when issues arise.
When not at work, Robert participates in many activities. He was the president of the Honesdale Area Jaycee’s Club, a member of his local Lions Club, and coach for the Honesdale Soccer Club. He recently had the opportunity to coach his son’s basketball team.
Robert also participated in the pack committee for the Cub Scouts and took part in the coffee break events at the PennDOT rest areas.
Robert is described as a hard worker by his colleagues and continues to shine through his outstanding work. He continues to educate himself on positions he is given so he can excel in his work performance.
