The James Manning House Bed and Breakfast is celebrating! The historic home is 200 years old in 2019! Three events are planned to commemorate two centuries of history, heritage and family tradition. The special events look back through the years with an Open House Tour of the home and its History, a Victorian Tea Party, and modern-day Christmas Open House.
Current owners Warren and Janet Heinly are hosting an Anniversary Open House on Sunday, June 9, from 1-3 p.m.
The history, architecture and character of the house will be featured. Guests are invited to tour the rooms and learn about the early days of the house and the Bethany area. Visitors are encouraged to stroll the grounds and extensive gardens, taking in the heirloom peonies and new garden plantings. Throughout the property, guests will be offered tidbits of appetizers and desserts prepared by family members from the Manning and Heinly families. Janet and family will be cooking and sharing recipes from their family traditions.
Christy Faatz Canzler, a great-great-great granddaughter of James Manning will be preparing some family-favorite recipes, some new, some old. Christy and her sister are traveling from Oregon to cook in what is their ancestral family kitchen.
They will be teaching and sharing recipes with Janet, her daughters and sister. Christy has taught cooking and writes a blog column, Back to the Table with Grace. https://backtothetablewithgrace.blogspot.com/
Later in the summer, a Victorian Tea Party is in the planning, which will fast forward history approximately 50 years. Local blended teas, including herbs harvested from the property’s gardens, and Janet’s famous scones will be featured. Check The James Manning House website for more details; www.jamesmanninghouse.com. And on December 7, The James Manning House will once again open its doors to a festive modern-day Holiday Open House featuring their extensive Santa Claus collection as well as a performance by the local high school chamber choir. Plan to join us for one or more of these events!
