Do you want to improve your health and boost your energy? The Wayne County YMCA can help! We are pleased to announce that our Executive Director and longtime Fitness Instructor has been certified as a Lifestyle Coach through the Chronic Disease Center for their Diabetes Prevention Program.
This year long program gives you the tools and support you need to prevent diabetes.
If you are at risk for diabetes, you can make small, measureable changes that can reduce your risk and help you live a happier healthier life. Your YMCA can help you succeed!
This program meets for 1 hour weekly for 4 months, bi weekly for 2 months and monthly until the end of the 12 months. You weigh in weekly with goals of losing 5-7% of your body weight and increasing your physical activity to 150 minutes per week. We do this with small simple goals using the tools developed. Along with the program meetings you will get a YMCA Membership and other incentives to keep you motivated.
Do you qualify? For this program you must be 18 years of age or older, have a BMI of greater than 25, and have been diagnosed with prediabetes via one of three blood tests provided by your physician, or a previous diagnosis of gestational diabetes. You can always call your doctor to be sure.
The Y will offer one session of this program starting the beginning of April. Days and times will be determined based on the participants. If you are interested, please come to the Y and fill out our Diabetes Prevention Program Interest Form. You will be contacted about more details and whether you qualify or not.
