LAKE ARIEL—Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) arrested a juvenile female and charged her with burglary, theft, fleeing and eluding for an incident which took place on April 5 in Lake Township.

PSP responded to a report of a suspicious female at a residence along the Easton Turnpike.

The suspect was believed to be, and later identified as a 13-year old female runaway from Child First Services earlier on the day of the incident.

A PSP release notes the suspect was in the vehicle belonging to the homeowners of the Easton Turnpike residence, “And when confronted, she jumped in a white sedan and fled on Easton Turnpike, 196, south toward Hamlin.”

The report states, while police were investigating, a neighbor approached, stating the suspect had stolen his car.

He had spotted the juvenile walking along Route 196, carrying clothing.

According to PSP, “When he arrived home he noticed clothing lying in his house and the car keys missing from where they hang.”

Inspecting the garage, he found his 2017 Buick LeSabre missing.

“Minutes after the stolen vehicle was put out, Troopers from PSP Blooming Grove observed the female and vehicle at Twin Rocks gas station,” states the release.

The suspect fled when approached, heading down Route 191 before turning onto Interstate 84 towards Wilkes-Barre.

“A pursuit ensued for approximately five miles at speeds of up to 115 miles per hour until the driver lost control after a right curve,” states the release. “The LeSabre traveled through the grass median and across the I-84 EB lanes before coming to a stop on the EB shoulder.”

The suspect then exited the vehicle and proceeded to flee on foot back across the east-bound lanes, meridian, and west-bound lanes.

“Troopers were able to grab the female and take her to the ground where she continued to resist and the Taser was deployed,” states PSP.

The suspect reported knee pain and was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital where she was medically cleared for incarceration.

The report notes she was turned over Wayne County Juvenile Probation who lodged her at the Northampton County Juvenile Detention Center.
