REGION — Text notifications utilizing the Remind service will cease for Verizon Wireless customers starting on Monday, January 28, according to Remind.
The free service sends a text message alerts to users from the partnering school district, like the Wayne Highlands School District.
These alerts include inclement weather delays and cancellations and are sent to students, parents and educators.
Remind states in a release that those using Verizon Wireless will “...no longer receive Remind text notifications.
“To get messages, you'll need to turn on smartphone or email notifications instead.”
Remind states the change is due Verizon “...charging Remind an additional fee intended for companies that send spam over its network.”
The company says this text messaging fee is “...at least 11 times our current cost...”
To continue using the service, customers can download the free Remind app or enable email notifications.
