HONESDALE — Monday, July 2, 2018 will bring another special Independence Day Celebration to Honesdale's Central Park, proudly presented by the Wayne County Creative Arts Council and the Greater Honesdale Partnership. The fun starts at 6:30 with activities for children and local vendors selling food, crafts, and specialty items along the street between the Park and the Court House.

Doug Smith’s Dixieland All-Stars will kick things off at 6:30 with a high-energy mix of patriotic favorites and Dixieland Jazz standards as well as some Cajun tunes and a few recent pop songs.  Doug, a full-time musician for over 30 years, has played in jazz festivals, nightclubs, concerts, colleges and resorts. The band features Doug Smith on bass, Tom Whaley on drums, Tom Kozic on guitar, Tom Hamilton on woodwinds, and Gary Rixner on trombone, Erin Malloy vocalist, plus perhaps a surprise banjo or piano.  More information may be found on www.lexingtonentertainment.org and www.youtube.com/dougsmithbass.

The Crystal Band will start at 8:00 and play until fireworks. Originally organized in 1879, this all-volunteer community band features more than fifty musicians playing woodwinds, brass, and percussion, ranging from high school students to senior citizens.  Under the direction of Doreen Hughes Ignatovich, the band will present a wide variety of patriotic, pops, Broadway, light classical and Big Band music - including, of course, plenty of John Philip Sousa!  For further information check online at www.crystalband.com.

The finale of the evening will come shortly after dusk, around 9:30, when a spectacular fireworks display will be launched from Irving Cliff, courtesy of the Greater Honesdale Partnership.

Rain date is Friday, July 6. There is no admission charge, but free-will donations will be gratefully collected during the evening. For more information, see www.honesdaleparkevents.org.
