HONESDALE - The Wayne Highlands School District recognized two top students on Tuesday night.
Seniors Michelle Krzemieniecki and Jacqueline Sanchez were lauded for their academic and extracurricular achievements.
School Director Kathy Grandjean and Superintendent Gregory Frigoletto commended the girls and their families. The school officials said the girls are in an elite group.
"This is a very proud moment for you and your daughters," Grandjean said.
Krzemieniecki and Sanchez thanked the board, their teachers and parents.
Both students have participate in numerous activities in their four years at the high school.
Krzemieniecki's activities and achievements include varsity tennis, varsity wrestling cheerleading, Special Olympics spring track and field, Student Council homeroom representative, volunteering with Honesdale Playgroup, honor roll and a member of the National Honor Society.
Krzemieniecki is in the top 10 percent of her class. She plans to attend either New York University or Boston University as an undeclared liberal arts major. She is the daughter of Maryrose Krzemieniecki.
Sanchez's activities and achievements include varsity girls soccer, four-year member of the TASS Soccer Club, Student Council homeroom representative, adapted physical education assistant, DAR Dorothy Noble Scholarship candidate, honor roll and the National Honor Society.
Sanchez is in the top 10 percent of her class. She plans to attend either Penn State University or Drexel University to major in information technology. She is the daughter of Carlos Sanchez and Betty Estrada.
The school board recognizes top students at every regularly scheduled public meeting.
