We live in a society where everybody wants you to do something or believe in something just because someone tells you to.

We live in a society where everybody wants you to do something or believe in something just because someone tells you to.

Why can't we just make up our own minds?

People will avoid reading a book or going to a movie because a critic gave it a bad review. Well, have you ever thought that maybe that critic has different tastes than you do?

Take Fifty Shades of Grey, which sold over 100 million books and made more than $80 million during its opening weekend. Even before the movie came out, the series was getting negative press of the subject at hand.

People were (and still are) saying it's about abuse and changing women's rights, that it's only erotica, the list goes on and on.

Herein lies the issue. If you've never read the series then you really have no room to talk because there is so much more to the series than meets the eye.

It's one thing to not be interested in checking it out, but only those who read the series understand there's a bigger point to the story than whether or not BDSM should be in existence.

Of course there were some negative reviews of the book and movie, but for the most part they were favorable. The majority of fans who read the series also loved the movie and are anxious for the next two.

Personally I never pay attention to any reviews. Maybe I'll skim one out of curiosity, but 99.9 percent of the time I don't deal with reviews.

I don't care if you aren't interested in the same thing as I am. You could even tell me that such and such a thing is horrible and I won't listen to you.

Why? Because I like making my own opinions, especially if I'm watching a movie adaption of a series I read.

That's what we should all do. Why should a critic you don't know, or even a friend you do know, stop you from seeing something you think looks interesting?

Everyone has their interests and things they like or don't like, but they aren't necessarily going to match yours.
