The Hawley Fire Department’s Annual Letter Drive got underway on June 2 when 1,153 letters were mailed to residents and businesses served by the Hawley Fire Department.

A goal of $18,000 has been set for this years letter drive and will be used to reduce debt, which is currently over $200,000.

The letter drive is important to the Hawley Fire Department as it raises approximately 20 percent of its yearly budget, according to Wendy Krause, Letter Drive Chairman.

The letter drive is currently lagging behind by about $5,000 and a second reminder letter has been mailed out to businesses and residents who have not made a donation.
