Western Wayne's C-Team saw its season finally end this past weekend with an 18-6 loss to Abington in the Northern Area Junior Football League playoffs.
Western Wayne’s dreams of a youth grid championship came to a disappointing end this past weekend in Northern Area Junior Football League playoff action.
On Saturday, the Junior Wildcats C-Team played host to perennial powerhouse Abington North.
Head Coach Chris Derrick’s squad put up a gallant fight, but the ‘Cats ran out of gas and eventually dropped a 19-6 decision.
Abington now advances to the NAJFL divisional title tilt. There, the Comets will do battle with undefeated and top-rated Carbondale Area (8-0).
Western Wayne closed out its campaign with an overall record of 5-5.
Despite Abington’s solid defensive front, the Junior ‘Cats were still able to run the ball effectively.
Talented young tailback Dylan Walck paced Western Wayne’s ground game with an eye-popping 134 yards on just 16 carries.
The highlight of Walck’s stellar performance was a 17-yard touchdown run late in the 4th quarter. These would be the team’s only points of the night.
Ezra Tetrault and Zack Malcolm also contributed key runs to the Jr. Wildcat cause. Tetrault hammered his way to seven yards on five carries, while Malcolm had four yards on two tries.
Defensively, Jack McAllister led the charge with a team-best six tackles. Walck and Malcolm chipped in with four solo hits apiece.
