Fire damaged a home in Lookout late Tuesday morning.

Equinunk Volunteer Fire Department was toned out around 11:45 a.m. to the home of Claude and Pat Neer on Neer Lane.

Firefighter Mike Turner says U.S. Postman David Pallis went by and saw smoke coming out from under the eaves and called for help.

“He turned around and went back, knocked on the door and made sure nobody was in there,” Turner said.

No one was home at the time of blaze, Turner said.

Equinunk responded with three trucks and 15 men.

“We called for Callicoon and Hortonville for mutual aid. They both responded with tankers. We were just afraid it was going to get away from us, so we called in additional help,” Turner said.

Turner says the house sustained substantial damage.

The fire was basically in the basement and the first floor area, he said.
“Very serious smoke damage,” Turner said.

They were able to knock the fire down within a half an hour.

No word on what caused the blaze. The State Police Fire Marshal’s unit was called in to investigate.
