On June 25, Countryside Family Campground will host a 5K race to benefit Habitat For Humanity.

A marathon racer himself, owner Tim Cartmell says he has noticed that there are very few races in this area, so he wanted to get something started.

Citing a recent survey that links decreased cholesterol to exercise rather than medication, he said promoting fitness can only be a good thing.

Asked why he chose Habitat For Humanity as the beneficiary for the fundraiser, Cartmell had this to say:

“I grew up poor. My mother raised nine of us alone, so I know what it’s like to have very little. Habitat For Humanity is one program that offers people a chance in life. I think that’s a great thing, and I want to support it.”

To register for the race, go to the Countryside website at www.countrysidefamilycampground.com, where a downloadable application can be found at the top of the page.

Directions to the campground can also be found on the site.

The race will begin at 9:30 a.m. Registration begins at 7:45 for a $20 fee.
