The Wayne County office of “Mental Retardation” is no longer. From now on, it will be known as the Office of Developmental Programs.

So says Andrea Whyte, administrator of the couty’s MH/MR/EI (Mental Health, Mental Retardation, Early Intervention) office, which provides numerous services to people with developmental or intellectual problems.

The programs and services offered remain  the same, Whyte said.

The name change, she said, is intended to reflect scientific advances in mental health-related issues.

The change is the result of a PA Department of Public Welfare directive.
