Marisa Gallik & Audrey Calkin paced Honesdale's girls basketball team to a 61-22 rout of Western Wayne this weekend. Gallik rattled the rims for 17 and Calkin added 12, helping the Lady Hornets advance to a second round Class AAA showdown with Nanticoke.

This is just a sneak peek at the story TWI Sports is developing for Tuesday's edition.

Finally...after two postponements due to nasty weather conditions...Honesdale and Western Wayne squared off Saturday afternoon at the Varden Garden.

The Lady Hornets showed very little rust in this opening round District Two play-off game. Coach Tracy Ludwig's girls leapt out to a big early lead, then cruised to an eventual 61-22 Mercy Rule win.

"We hit a couple of shots right at the beginning and things just snowballed from there," Coach Ludwig told TWI Sports. "I think our girls played very well and I'm looking forward to our next district game."

Weather permitting, that contest will take place Tuesday night at Nanticoke. The fourth-seeded Trojans opened their D-2 title quest with a 58-36 win over #13 Tunkhannock.

Marisa Gallik and Audrey Calkin provided Honesdale with a solid 1-2 scoring punch against the homestanding Lady 'Cats.

Gallik buried three treys en route to a game-high 17 points. Calkin dominated the low post, powering her way to 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Abby Carmody led the way for Western Wayne with 11 of her team's 22 total points.

Score by Quarters...
HON (10-13)  15  27  13  6 - 61
WW  (14--10)  3    7    9   3 - 22
