Honesdale's freshmen boys basketball team finished up the 2009-'10 campaign with a solid victory over archrival Wallenpaupack Area. Led by Kevin Miller, Chris Nagel and Jon Gillow, the Hornets cruised to a 54-35 Lackawanna League win.

Honesdale’s freshmen boys basketball team closed out a solid season this week with a win over archrival Wallenpaupack Area.

The Hornets dominated the first and third periods of this Lackawanna League contest en route to an eventual 54-35 win.

“This was a good win for us,” Coach Maria West told TWI Sports afterward. “The boys did some really nice things out there.”

Honesdale wasted no time in taking control of this game.

Kevin Miller ignited an 18-6 run with a highlight reel play midway through the opening period.

Miller, a talented 8th grade guard, buried a long trey from the right wing. Kevin was fouled in the process of shooting and buried the free throw for a rare 4-point play.

He finished out the afternoon with 14 points.

Chris Nagel and Jonathan Gillow also played key roles in this impressive victory. Nagel tallied a game-high 15 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Gillow powered his way to 12 points.

Connor Jones paced a balanced Paupack attack with nine points. The biggest play of Connor’s day came just before intermission when he hammered home a long trey of his own.

James Strattman and Pat Keane each added a 3-ball for Paupack in a losing effort.

Will Hendel provided a spark for the homestanding Buckhorns.

A multi-sport athlete who also excels on the gridiron, Hendel turned in a solid all-round game. Will scored four points, snagged three steals and handed out a pair of assists.

Hendel also played aggressive defense, but fouled out late in the game and received a warm ovation from the Buckhorn crowd.
