A girl was struck down on Charles Street, White Mills, while walking to the bus stop, last Thursday morning, March 20.
State Police said that at 7:15 a.m. the girl was walking down the hill to the bus stop at Route 6, when the vehicle came by heading in the same direction. The vehicle’s mirror struck the girl’s back pack, which sent her to the ground. She was unhurt, Trooper Kyle Hnat said.
The unknown driver kept going, south on Charles Street towards Route 6. The vehicle was silver in color. Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police, Honesdale, at 253-7126.
Other recent accidents:
• On Saturday night, March 22, a 17-year old driver had a mishap along State Route 247, Clinton Township. At 11 p.m., the juvenile was heading east in a 1997 Ford Taurus, when the left front tire failed. The car wet out of control and became disabled in a ditch off the south berm, said trooper Michael Turlip. This was reported to be at Curtis Valley, east of Browndale. There was no report of injury.
• A 2000 Grand Cherokee collided with a tree Friday, March 21, at 3:07 a.m. The crash occurred when Christine M. Martin, 27, of Hawley, was going east on SR 3028 Owego Turnpike, Palmyra Township. For unknown reasons, the Jeep veered off the south berm, struck a mail box and entered a yard, when the vehicle came to rest against a tree, said Trooper Turlip. There was no report of injury.
• A two vehicle crash occurred Saturday, March 22 at 10:15 a.m., along SR 191 in Newfoundland. Trooper Kyle Hnat said that a 1998 Ford Escort, driven by a juvenile, turned off from heading south on 191, to enter the Newfoundland Moravian Church property. There were four juvenile passengers; all occupants were from Lake Ariel.
The car went in front of another vehicle heading north, a 1998 Chevrolet Venture driven by Ann C. Glasner of Greentown. The juvenile motorist did not see the oncoming car, said Trooper Hnat. There was no report of injuries.
• Trooper Turlip responded to a roll-over crash Thursday, March 20, which occurred at 11:19 p.m. in Lebanon Township. Lori A. Schnackenberg, 32, of Shiremanstown, Pa., was going north on Route 191 when she lost control on ice. The 2003 Jeep Cherokee hit an embankment off the east berm and went on its side. There was no word of injuries in the report.
