State police trooper Brian Rickard of the Honesdale barracks is reporting a robbery that occurred early Friday morning at The Dime Bank’s Damascus branch.
According to a press release, shortly after midnight surveillance cameras captured footage of a white male of an average height and a stocky build smashing the glass of the bank’s front doors with a large metal pry bar.
Once inside, the burglar pried open the drawers at several teller stations and looted numerous rolls of coins before fleeing the scene on foot.
Anyone with information on this burglary is asked to call PSP Honesdale at (570) 253-7126.
Weather-related crashes
Trooper Kelly Todd reports responding to two crashes blamed on bad weather Thursday within a half hour of each other on Route 670 in Dyberry Township.
The first occurred about 400 feet south of Miller Road at 3:40 p.m. As 28 year-old Megan Wormuth of Preston Park was driving north on a downhill section of the Road, she lost control of her 2007 Ford Edge because of slush on the Road and crossed into the southbound lane, where she collided with a 2001 Chevy Silverado driven by Honesdale’s James Bowen, 22.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts and sustained no injuries.
The second crash occurred just north of township Road 554 as 42 year-old Dena Slocum of Honesdale was headed south on Route 670 when she lost control on a slushy downhill section of the road.
Slocum’s 2005 Chevy Cobalt slid off the southbound side of the road and over an embankment before connecting the driver’s door with a utility pole.
Slocum was also wearing a seatbelt at the time and was uninjured.
Trooper Jamison Warner reports responding to a single car crash later that evening that occurred at the intersection of Route 191 and Batzel Road in Lake Township.
At about 11 p.m., a 2010 Chevy Suburban piloted by Steven Armstrong, 38, of La Russel, Mo. skidded off the east side of the road and took out a stop sign at the intersection with Batzel Road before traveling across Batzel Road and striking a tree and a lighted sign for Chapman Towing.
Armstrong was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured, but he was cited for driving at unsafe speeds.
His truck was towed from the scene by Chapman towing.
