Almost everyone has had back trouble at one point or another. Usually, when that happens, the first piece of advice someone gives them is to go see a chiropractor. However, as Moscow’s Vital Link Chiropractic shows, a chiropractor doesn’t just focus on back problems.
This year, Vital Link is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Dr. Erik Schmidt explained that following a 3-year stint in a chiropractor’s office in Old Forge, he wanted to branch out on his own.
“When I mentioned to one of my patients that I wanted to start my own practice, she said, ‘look no further than the North Pocono area’. That’s how I came up to Moscow,” Schmidt, who is originally from New Jersey, said.
In 2005, Schmidt and his colleagues, Dr. Stephen Pokowicz and Dr. Antony Graham, opened Vital Link’s new facility on Church Street.
“We’re all a team here at Vital Link,” Schmidt said. “As doctors, we confer on all of our cases and we use each other’s various areas of expertise. We also appreciate all of our employees, they keep us going and are very good to us.”
Besides basic chiropractic services, Vital Link offers massage therapy, on-site x-rays, disc decompression, and custom foot orthotics. They also offer rehabilitative exercise to their patients.
“Exercise and chiropractic medicine go hand-in-hand,” Schmidt explained. “The exercise helps stabilize your bones.”
Schmidt explained that the bulk of Vital Link’s business comes from word-of-mouth advertising.
“We are very patient-centered here,” Schmidt said. “You could be the best chiropractor in the world but if you don’t focus on your patients, you aren’t working to your best potential.”
Speaking of potential, that is what Vital Link Chiropractic seeks to bring out in its patients.
“When I came up with the name ‘Vital Link’ 10 years ago, I was thinking about all of the .coms that were catchy at the time,” Schmidt said. “But ‘Vital Link’ also means the link that chiropractic medicine gives you back to your vitality. It is a link back to the person you should be, the potential you have inside of you.”
