Honesdale, Pa. -

Dime Bank seems to be peaking at the perfect time this summer.

The Pythons rolled to another impressive victory Wednesday night at Keith Sutton Memorial Field.

Led by Erik Sandercock’s pitching...and a team-wide offensive power surge...Honesdale pounded out a 9-1 victory over the FMS Generals.

“This was a very good win against a good team,” Pythons’ skipper George Kinsman told TWI Sports. “We played excellent defense again and anytime Erik pitches as well as he did tonight, we’re tough to beat.”

With this win, Dime Bank upped its record to 7-3 on the season. That leaves the Pythons and Milford in a virtual tie atop the division standings.

Weather permitting, Honesdale will play once more before preparing for the annual play-off tournament. The Pythons are still looking to make up a twinbill with Elk Lake.

Stay tuned to TWI Sports for continuing coverage of District 15 American Legion action.

On the Hill
Sandercock pitched his way out of trouble in the top of the first for Honesdale, but then put together one of his most efficient outings of the season.

Erik fanned Joe Harvey to end the first, then needed just six pitches in the second and nine in the third.

“I think that’s one of the best games I’ve seen Erik pitch,” said Coach Kinsman. “He mixed his fastball and breaking pitches really well. By the third time through the line-up, they didn’t have a clue what was coming.”

Sandercock worked seven strong innings and surrendered only four hits. Erik struck out five and walked two.

Billy Gillette opposed Sandercock and also went the distance. The FMS ace, who pitches for Western Wayne during the scholastic season, worked six innings and allowed eight earned runs.

Gillette fanned six, issued a pair of walks and was roughed up for 14 basehits.

Offensive Onslaught
Scotty Shaffer paced the Pythons’ attack on this day.

Honesdale’s clean-up batter ripped three hits in four plate appearances. Scotty singled in both the first and third innings, then unloaded an RBI triple in the fourth.

“Scotty’s just killing the ball right now,” Coach Kinsman said. “He’s really locked in. When we took him down to Keystone for the showcase, Scotty was hitting about .550...and he’s done nothing but go up from there.”

Sandercock made his presence felt at the plate as well as on the mound. Erik smoked an RBI double in the bottom of the third, then singled and scored in the fourth.

Jake Schilling and Brad Fasshauer continued their red-hot hitting, too. Schilling went 2-for-4 and reached base three times. Fasshauer also banged out two hits and scored a run.

Honesdale’s 1-4 batters com-bined to go 8-for-16.

“We really don’t have a weak spot in our line-up,” Coach Kinsman said. “Everybody’s coming through with big hits when we need them.”
