Dyberry Twp, Pa. -

The summer road race season will officially begin this coming weekend at the Wayne County Fairgrounds.

According to event organizer Terri Martin, the 2008 Dr. William Perkins Memorial Run will take place this Saturday, July 18th in Dyberry Township.

This marks the 23rd year for the race, which is co-sponsored by Wayne Memorial Health System and Honesdale’s Friends of Track & Cross Country.

Saturday’s activities begin at 8:30 a.m. with the 5K Wayne Memorial Fitness Walk and the 5K Run. Both events begin on the Dyberry Oval in front of the grandstand.

The race/walk course is classified as “flat & fast.” Runners exit the fairgrounds, turn right on Rte. 191 and proceed to the bridge at the junction of Rte 670. Participants then double back the way they came, finishing up at the Fairgrounds.

There will also be a Quarter Mile Fun Run and One Mile competitive run with separate heats for men and women (boys & girls).

The 23rd Perkins Run is open to all walkers/runners of all abilities. For further information, please contact Terri Martin at 253-3486.
