Bryan Cosgrove was all smiles Wednesday afternoon...and he had a right to be.
One of the top offensive linemen in Wallenpaupack history, Cosgrove inked a Letter of Intent to attend the University of Richmond starting in the fall.
“I’m very excited about playing football at Richmond,” Bryan told TWI Sports at a packed news conference. “The campus and the facilities are awesome. I just can’t wait to get down there to Virginia and get started.”
The Trenches
Cosgrove is the anchor of an offensive line that catapulted Paupack from pretender to contender in just two short years.
Last fall, the Buckhorns won seven regular season game and earned a spot in the Eastern Conference play-offs. This autumn, the local lads won eight times and received an invitation to compete in the District Two tournament.
Dr. Mark Watson’s squad was eliminated in the Class AAAA quarterfinals, but Paupack served notice that its gridiron renaissance is genuine.
“It’s players like Bryan Cosgrove who made all that possible,” Dr. Watson said. “He’s the type of kid who represents his team and his school incredibly well. “If Bryan gets back in the weight room and works as hard as he did here in high school, he could make an impact right away.”
Cosgrove was also a force on the defensive side of the ball. He led the team in both sacks and quarterback pressures from his end position.
Onward & Upward
The Spiders are a Division I program on the rise.
Richmond claimed the NCAA’s Division IAA national championship in 2008. Last year, the Spiders went 11-2 and were eliminated from the title hunt in the semifinals.
“It’s a really good program and a really good school,” Dr. Watson said. “I think ‘Cos is going to do very well there.”
On hand to see Bryan sign his official Letter of Intent were proud parents Mike & Ann.
Cosgrove intends to major in History with a minor in Education.
Richmond’s football web site lists Bryan as a 6’5” 250 lb. offensive tackle.
