The good news is that Honesdale’s sometimes erratic offense erupted for more than 60 points.

The bad news? Well, the Lady Hornets’ usually airtight defense was riddled for more than 70 points.

The unfortunate result of this Thursday evening equation was a 76-61 loss to Scranton in Lackawanna League girls hoops action.

Honesdale trailed by as many as 21 points in this one, but refused to back down late in the game.
Led by Marisa Gallik and Mary Martin, the Lady Hornets twice closed the gap to just five before running out of gas.

With this disappointing loss, the Red & Black fell to 0-4 in second half Division One action.
Scranton is now in a virtual 3-way tie atop the standings. West Scranton, Abington and the Knights are all unbeaten.

Next up for Honesdale is a Monday evening road trip to West Side. That contest is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

Scranton sprinted out to a big early lead in Thursday night’s ballgame.

The Knights were paced by the explosive backcourt combination of Kayla Bailey and Sara Corbett. The former rattled the rims for a game-high 23 points, while the latter chipped in with 21.

Gallik led the Red & Black attack with another blistering perimeter performance. Marisa hammered home four field goals and three treys en route to an 18-point outing.

Mary Martin also contributed big buckets for the Lady Hornets. The freshman ballhandler tallied 11 points and dished out six assists.

Anna Albers and Kacie Johannes brought raucous cheers from the partisan hometown crowd.

Albers buried several long-range jays on her way to eight points, while Johannes provided a spark off the bench with nine markers.

Audrey Calkin and Randi Jo Kowalczyk played well in the paint.

Calkin powered her way to nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Kowalczyk added six points and five boards.
