This week, some of the centers most frequent patrons set off a series of white-hot fireworks at the Wallenpaupack Bowling Center.
The action began to heat up on Tuesday evening during the Adult-Youth League.
Paupack’s own Jim Kennedy continued his dominance on the local lanes.
After firing two identical 224 games, Kennedy upped the ante — finishing the night out by stringing the front 10, Kennedy spared the final ball in the tenth frame for a 289 game.
After firing a 737 series, Kennedy (although disappointed he was unable to attain perfection) was congratulated by others in the league and by the center’s staff.
In only 30 frames of competition, Kennedy had upped his average four pins — from 222 to 226; the highest in the league.
Jim and his wife, Eva, the proprietors of Grandma and Grandpa Lawn Services, will be heading to Las Vegas next week to compete in this year’s USBC Open Championships.
Heading into next week’s position round, “4 Trouble Makers” holds a 1-point advantage over the second-place “Puddy Tats.”
In third, and just three points removed from first place, is “Gutter Kings” which is lead by their anchor, Honesdale’s own Sam Burcher as Sam’s father, Terry, who serves as the team’s setup man.
Scholarship League
On Wednesday, during the Brian Hafler Memorial Scholarship League, Matthew (the late Brian Hafler’s son) turned in an outing which surely would have made his father proud.
Beginning the evening with a 204 average, Hafler was pessimistic as to his ability to maintain that mark.
During practice, he spoke as to his poor ball reaction. However, once the arrows appeared on the overhead scorer, Hafler’s ball quickly began to find the 1-3 pocket.
After beginning with a 207 game, Hafler quickly upped his performance. After opening in the first frame, he strung ten consecutive strikes — ending with a 276 score.
Now, the stage was set for a possible 700 series.
Hafler knew this, and came out firing, hitting the front six strikes. Matthew would end his night with a 234 game and a 717 series. He also raised his average to a league-best 211.
In next week’s position round, Chris Shivers and Garrett Hartmann will look to maintain their first-place standing with a 41-4 record.
PBA Experience
This week during the Monday PBA Experience League, Clare Agnesini and Michael Markis continued their dominating run by taking 16 points from Frank Betz and Harry Steuhl.
Although Victoria Goncalves and Joe Sutton only took ten points from Bill Steuhl and Joe Caloger, they still maintained their second place standings.
