After a full summer of exciting action, the Wayne County Men’s Softball League championship chase is down to just two teams.

On Tuesday evening at Hamlin Elementary, Wargo Flooring closed out its epic semifinal battle with a 12-11 win over Gravity.

This victory catapulted Wargo’s into the championship series against Chet’s. The Union Dale lads have been patiently awaiting an opponent after staging a surprising sweep of #1 seed Beach Lake Inn.

Game One of the finals will take place tonight in Hamlin. Chet’s will host the second game on Tuesday. If a rubber match becomes necessary, the series would return to Hamlin Elementary.

Epic Battle
Wargo’s and Gravity Inn began the finale of this best-of-three set last Thursday. The two teams fought to a 9-9 stalemate on a dark & rainy night in Hamlin.

This game was halted after seven innings and play resumed Tuesday night. Kenny Morris and Brian Blaum provided the heroics for Wargo’s.

Morris forced the game into extra innings with a clutch 2-run single in the bottom of the 7th.

Gravity wasted no time in re-taking the lead, though. The visitors tallied twice in the top of the 8th and seemed destined for victory.

However, Wargo’s staged yet another comeback in the home half of the frame.

Blaum stepped up to the plate against reliever Paul Debish and roped a 2-run single to right center. This clutch basehit knotted the score at 11-1 and set the stage for a walk-off win.

Dale Snyder eventually did the honors. Wargo’s fleet-footed centerfielder worked a bases-loaded walk to force in the winning run and end the series.

Mark Bell trotted home, clinching a 12-1 win and setting off a wild celebration. Morris earned the pitching decision for Wargo’s.

Gravity  5  2  0  0  0  2  0  2 - 11
