Kutztown, Pa. -

Former Western Wayne standout Erin Waters recently closed out her collegiate athletics career in fine fashion.

A star volleyball player at Kutztown University, Erin led the Golden Bears to a school-record 28 wins this past season. As a reward, Waters was named to the PSAC All-Stars and earned a Second Team All-Regional bid.

“By the end of last season, Erin was playing as well as any middle we have ever had here,” said Kutztown Coach John Gump. “She adds a great deal of speed to our offense.”

In addition to these on-court honors, Erin also garnered a place on the PSAC’s All-Scholar/Athlete team. To be eligible for this elite honor, a student must maintain a 3.25 cumulative grade point average while competing in an intercollegiate sport.

Erin majors in “professional writing” at Kutztown. She is one of just 1,420 athletes to achieve this distinction statewide. Over the course of the 2007-’08 campaign, 131 Golden Bears were recognized as “Scholar/Athletes.” That number represents an all-time record at the school, which sponsors 23 varsity sports.

Waters is listed as a 5’11” middle hitter in Kutztown’s official media guide. Erin just completed her senior season and was among the team leaders in virtually all major offensive statistical categories.

Over the course of 38 games, Erin was second on the squad in total kills (415), but first in kills-per-game (3.17). The high-flying senior also ended the season second in total blocks (131) but first in blocks-per-game (1.00).

Kutztown University’s women’s volleyball team rolled to an 8-2 record in the PSAC. This performance netted Coach Gump’s squad a berth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament.

There, both Waters and the Golden Bears turned in one unforgettable outing. Erin erupted for a career-high 20 kills as Kutztown upset #4 California (PA). The final score of this match was 3-2.
