Teams are beginning to jockey for play-off position as the Honesdale Missy Basketball Association’s regular season winds down.
Heading into Week Eight of local hardwood action, just two unbeaten teams remain in the overall standings.
Pursuit of Perfection
The Celtics have yet to taste defeat on the Junior Division scene. With veteran Coach Janine Edwards calling the shots, the “Green Machine” is all alone in first place with a 5-0 record.
The team’s most recent win came Monday with a 22-11 decision over Coach Bob Diehl’s Lakerettes (2-3).
Meanwhile, in Senior Division action, the Belles are on a season-long roll. Coach Eddie Hart’s squad is a perfect 4-0 and unchallenged in first place.
The Belles upped their winning streak to four straight last Saturday with a 25-16 victory over the Cardinals (0-4).
There will be a full slate of Missy Basketball games tonight at Lakeside Elementary.
Junior Division action comes first with a 4:00 p.m. clash between the Jazz and Sparks. Game Two features the Bullets and Lakerettes in a 5:00 p.m. showdown.
Senior Division competition begins at 6:00 p.m. with a contest between the Cardinals and Stars. The evening’s grand finale pits the Belles and Kernals at 7:00 p.m.

On the Hardwood
Last Saturday’s slate tipped-off with the Lakerettes winning a low-scoring defensive battle with the Sparks.
The final score was 14-10.
Aryselas Grant and Emily Theobald led the winners with four points each. Hope Bancroft, Megan Hedgelon and Karli Martin chipped in with two points apiece for the Lakerettes.
Scarfalloto & Casazza combined for eight points in a losing effort. Robbins added a bucket for the Sparks.
Saturday’s second game saw the undefeated Celtics roll to a 19-5 win over the Jazz.
Sadie Borsdam was at the heart of the Celtic assault in this one, rattling the rims for a game-high eight points.
Borsdam received help from teammates Kiera Oakley (four pts), Jennson Gibbs (three pts), Laura Hooker and Natalie Tamblyn (two pts. apiece).
Brianna Cawley, Kayla Rivera and Melanie Hnatko accounted for all of the Jazz points.
Game Three saw the Belles deal the Cards a 25-16 loss in Senior Division action.
Olivia Meyer and Skye Marte led the Belles’ attack with six points each. Emily Barton (five pts) and Kristen Schmale (four pts) also contributed big plays for the victors.
