At the midpoint of an exciting youth hoops season, just four unbeaten teams remain in the Honesdale Biddy Basketball Association.
The Lakers and Rockets are tied atop the Junior Division standings with identical 4-0 records.
In Senior Division action, the Blazers and Frogs are on a collision course at 4-0.
This weekend, the beat goes on at Lakeside Elementary. There will be a full slate of Junior Division games Saturday and Senior Division contests on Sunday.
Saturday Highlights
The Bullets raised their record to .500 Saturday with a razor-thin 15-14 victory over the Spurs.
Mark Ambrose was the star in this one. The talented young cager scored all eight of his points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winner which came with just six ticks left in regulation.
Thanks in large part to the play of Will Howell, the Spurs dominated the first three periods of this contest. Howell also scored eight points and gave his team the lead with :26 remaining.
Saturday’s second game saw the Falcons deal the Sixers a fourth consecutive loss.
Coach Zach Tamblyn’s squad broke open what had been a close game en route to a 20-14 decision. The Falcons outscored the Sixers 10-3 in the fourth quarter.
Colin Rickard paced the winners with eight points. He was aided & abetted by teammates Gayrn Barnes (six pts) and Parker Propst (four pts).
Will Rieger led the Sixers with three buckets, while Grady Birmelin chipped in with five points.
In the highest scoring game of the day, Nick Krempasky and Anthony DiGori catapulted the Lakers to a 31-27 victory over the Cavaliers.
Krempasky rattled the rims for a team-best 13 points and DiGori contributed 10.
Konnor Burke was a one-man wrecking crew for the Cavs. The hot-shooting guard slashed his way to 19 points in a losing effort.
Saturday’s finale was a defensive battle between the unbeaten Rockets and struggling Hornets.
Coach Andy Box’s lads staved off an upset bid and moved to 4-0 via a 14-10 decision. Josh LoBasso (five pts) and Evan Bass (three pts) paced a balanced Rocket assault.
For the Hornets, Ryan Novobilski and Nic Vlacich showed the way with four points each.
Sunday Highlights
In Week Four Senior Division action, the Blazers stayed unbeaten with a 30-20 decision over the Hawks (1-3).
Brian Gibbons, Josh LoBasso, Jack Rickard and Bayley Spoor tallied six points each for the victorious Blazers.
Ian Langendoerfer kept the Hawks in this one with a 10-point outburst. Elijah Nell chipped in with four.
Game Two saw the Frogs keep pace atop the Senior Division standings. Coach Pete Goyette’s squad rolled to a 23-15 win over the Bulls (1-3).
Reed McLaughlin led the way with a game-high 13 points. Nate Redick contributed six to the Frogs’ cause.
Tyler Canfield and Justin Brown paced the Bulls with four points apiece.
Sunday’s grand finale was by far the most entertaining game of the entire weekend.
In this one, the Cardinals needed two overtime periods before finally defeating the Mavericks. The final score was 30-27.
Adam Kelly and Justin Jay provided the heroics for the winners.
Kelly erupted for a game-high 15 points, five of which came in the first extra session. Jay tallied eight points on the night, including two crucial buckets in the second overtime.
Trent McConnell was Top Gun for the Mavs, hitting for nine points.
Tristan Petroski also rose to the occasion, tallying eight. Petroski’s biggest basket of the evening came with five seconds left in the first overtime. Tristan’s long-distance trey tied the game at 26-all and forced a second OT period.
