Varden, Pa. -

Charlcie Brink celebrated yet another milestone moment this past weekend.

Western Wayne’s multi-sport star scored the 1,000th point of her varsity basketball career Friday  at the Varden Garden.

“I tried not to think about it, but I was definitely nervous before the game,” Charlcie told TWI Sports. “When my mom & dad came out on the court, that’s when it really hit me. I got a little bit teary-eyed then.”

Brink needed just 10 points heading Friday’s battle with Forest City. She ended up with 20, but the Lady ‘Cats still suffered a surprising 59-47 setback. With this loss, Western Wayne fell to 10-8 overall. The Lady ‘Cats are 1-1 in second half Division III action.

“I was really disappointed after the game,” Charlcie said. “I mean, it was an amazing feeling getting to 1,000 points, but I wanted us to win more than anything else.”

Next up for Colleen Kloss’ girls is a much-anticipated re-match with Montrose.

“We’re going to play defense differently this time around,” Western Wayne’s second year coach said. “We need to control Dallas Ely on the perimeter and we need to rebound better. If we do those those things, we’ll be in pretty good shape.”

The Lady ‘Cats will travel to the wilds of Susquehanna County Thursday to battle the Meteors.
Western Wayne has lost both of its games against Montrose this winter. The second of those two setbacks came in a special play-off for the first half Division III title.

“We’re definitely looking for a little bit of revenge,” Brink said. “I really think we’re a better team, but we just haven’t proven it yet.”

Western Wayne and Montrose will tip off at about 7:30 p.m.

Tough Loss
The Lady ‘Cats and Foresters battled to a stalemate after three quarters of action Friday night.
With the score tied 38-38, Forest City’s erratic offense got untracked.

Led by Cassie Erdmann, the Foresters dominated the final period. Forest City’s sharpshooting guard rattled the rims for a game-high 27 points.

Erdmann ignited a 21-9 run that effectively sealed the deal on this victory.

Brink’s 20 points paced the Lady ‘Cats. She received solid support from teammates Abby Carmody (11 pts) and Courtney Kromko (six pts).

With this victory, Forest City moved into a tie with Montrose atop the Division III standings. Coach Carl Urbas’ are now 10-7 overall and 2-0 in league action. The Foresters finished third in the first half with a 5-2 record.

The Skinny
Charlcie is the daughter of Bob & Cindy Brink.

Bob was a football standout at North Pocono and Cindy starred in several sports at Western Wayne.

In addition to being the newest member of the “1,000-Point Club,” Chuck is also Western Wayne’s all-time leading scorer in girls soccer.

This past season, she hammered home 30 goals in leading the Lady ‘Cats to a berth in the District Two Class AA championship game.
