After running roughshod over its competition during first half Lackawanna League action, Honesdale’s girls freshmen hoops team experienced a reality check at the hands of Scranton Prep.
The young Lady Hornets took an undefeated record into this match-up, but quickly dug them-selves a huge hole. To the shock of a big Maple City crowd, the Red & Black fell behind early and trailed the Classics 25-6 after one period.
“Ultimately, I think this was a good experience for the girls,” Coach Dave Patrisso said. “We lacked our usual intensity and they took advantage of it.”
Although Honesdale did play even-up the rest of the way, Prep cruised to a 56-38 win...knocking the Hornets from first place and the ranks of the unbeaten.
“Lesson learned,” Coach Patrisso said. “We made it a point to address our focus and intensity in practice this past week and I think it really shows.”
The Lady Hornets were quick to bounce back from this disappointing loss, taking out their frustrations on Delaware Valley en route to a 44-20 rout.
Point guard Jessica Carney paced a balanced Red & Black attack with 11 points, including a deep trey.
Baily Leet also contributed some big buckets and finished up with six.
Forward Megan Benson earned high marks from Coach Patrisso with stellar play in the first quarter.
“Megan really sparked us at the start of the game,” he said. “She did a great job setting the tone.”
Shiann Potter powered her way to four points and several key rebounds in the low post.
