Hawley, Pa. -

On the cusp of elimination, Kestler’s lived to fight another day by posting a huge victory Thursday night in Wayne County Men’s Softball League play-off action.

The Hawley lads wasted no time at all taking complete control in Game Two of their semifinal series against Waymart Hotel. Kestler’s exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the first, then held off a late Hotel rally en route to a 14-8 triumph.

This outcome necessitates a third and deciding game in the set. Next Tuesday night, the series will return to the Homer Dome in Waymart. This winner-take-all contest is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.

Early & Often
Wally Kulick drew the starting nod for Waymart Hotel, but ran into trouble immediately.

Kulick did not survive the first inning as Kestler’s erupted for 10 runs and chased Wally from the hill. He handed the ball off to Joe Williams Sr., who pitched into the sixth before yielding to Richie Walker.

Pete Saprona was the starter and winner for Kestler’s. The fireballing righty pitched six innings and allowed one run.

Jeff Barnes worked the final frame in relief and was tagged for seven runs.

Wargo Flooring has already clinched a spot in the ‘09 title series. The Hamlin-based team swept its semifinal match-up with Joe’s Ranch House.

If Waymart Hotel advances, Game One of the finals would be played at the HomerDome. A Kestler’s victory would mean an opener at the Hamlin Elementary School field.
