LaPlume, Pa. -

When Keystone College announced plans to revive its field hockey program after a 20-year hiatus, expectations were understandably modest.

Kacy Manning, a graduate of Lackawanna Trail and standout player at East Stroudsburg University, took on coaching duties early in 2008. She began the monumental task of building a team from scratch by recruiting players from all over the region.

One of the first to come aboard was former Honesdale star Kellina Yarrish. A four-year starter for the Lady Hornets, Yarrish transferred in from ESU for the spring semester.

Keystone opened its inaugural campaign with a 3-2 upset of Bryn Mawr, causing coaches all across the Colonial States Athletic Conference to sit up and take note.

Kellina is the team’s leading scorer with nine goals. She paced the Giants to a 9-7 overall record and a #3 seed in the CSAC play-offs.

Keystone will play its first post season game on campus in more than two decades this weekend. The Giants will host #6 seed Immaculata College Saturday afternoon at Ned Boehm Field.
