Honesdale, Pa. -

The Lady Hornet field hockey team returns to the District Two championship chase tomorrow afternoon right here in the Maple City.

Honesdale just recently put the finishing touches on a solid Wyoming Valley Conference, go-ing 7-8 in regular season action.

With this record, the Red & Black ended up third in the Division Two standings and earned a D-2 play-off berth.

Coach Becca Maciejewski’s girls will open their Class AAA title quest Wednesday afternoon, at home, against DV. Gametime is set for 3:30 p.m.

“The girls are stoked for this one,” she told TWI Sports. “We’re all excited about having a home play-off game. We’re very happy to be the #4 seed. I think we’re going to do really well.”

The Showdown
These two teams met back on October 6th in what will be remembered as one of the season’s best games.

Delaware Valley exploded out of the gate, scoring three first half goals to take a seemingly insurmountable lead.

The Lady Hornets refused to die, however, and fought all the way back. Desiraye Mack, Mary Martin and Brittany Cardona each tallied a goal to force an overtime session.

Sadly for local fans, Sarah Witkowski banged home her second goal of the game to give DV a thrilling 4-3 decision.

The Warriors finished their season with a 6-8 record in the always-rugged Division One.

The Numbers
Honesdale boasts a talented roster of players...and a happy mixture of youngsters and battle-tested veterans.

Mack is at the heart of the Red & Black attack offensively. Desiraye is still just a sophomore, but is already one of the WVC’s most feared scorers.

She leads Honesdale into the post season with a team-best 11 goals. Desi also has handed out six assists.

Holly Hessberger has also played a big role in the offense. The senior tri-captain tallied eight goals and two assists.

Cardona, Martin and Skinner are also in double figures. Brittany and Mary have 16 points each, while Elly has 12.
