Wayne Highlands dug itself a huge hole in its Week One ACCJF battle with archrival Paupack on Saturday night.
The Stingers spotted the homestanding Junior Bucks 13 points, but then staged a desperate comeback.
When the final whistle blew, Coach Lee Donat’s B-Team squad had rallied to post a wild 18-13 win.
“I’m really glad we won, but we didn’t play very well,” he told TWI Sports. “We shot ourselves in the foot with a lot of penalties. Luckily, Paupack didn’t take full advantage of the breaks we gave them.”
Next up for Wayne Highlands is a Week Two road trip to Dunmore. That game is set for a 6:45 p.m. start.
Monster Night
Tristan Petroski turned in a huge performance for the B-Teamers.
A hard-charging tailback, Petroski erupted for nearly 200 yards rushing and two long scoring runs.
Tristan pulled the Red & Black to within seven with a scintillating 80-yard TD jaunt. Moments later, Petroski gave Wayne Highlands the lead with a 45-yard TD run off a reverse.
Defensively, Dyllon Fillebrown, Nick Vlacich and Tyler McConnell led the Stingers’ charge.
Nick Krempasky directed Honesdale on one last scoring drive late in the game. The Stingers quarterback hit Mark Ambrose with a 55-yard TD strike midway through the fourth period.
Petroski killed off Paupack’s final drive with an interception at his own four yardline.
