The Dodgers opened their quest for a Wayne County Commissioners team tournament title Monday night at Fred Reisch Memorial Field.

Under the direction of veteran Coach Scott Kinzinger, Wayne Bank rolled to a 9-1 victory over the Damascus Braves. With the win, the reigning HLBA Senior Division champs advance to the quarterfinals of this double elimination event.

The Dodgers will play again tonight against archrival Elegante. First pitch for this contest is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. on the Reisch Field.

Heavy Artillery
Kevin Miller drew the starting nod for Wayne Bank in the opener and turned in yet another masterful performance.

The fireballing righty worked six innings, allowed no earned runs on just two hits. Miller issued a pair of free passes and struck out an eye-popping 14 Damascus batters. Kevin helped his own cause by blasting a solo homer in the bottom of the third. He also walked twice and score two runs.

Nick Maritato led the Dodgers’ assault with a walk, single and homer. He also tallied twice. Gavin Canfield chipped in with two hits and a run scored. Jon Gillow, Brandon Enslin and Stacey Hart rounded out the Wayne Bank attack with a basehit each.

Damascus competes in the Delaware Valley Little Fellows League. The Braves scratched out their only run off Miller in the top of the fourth.

John Chudik walked up on an infield out and scored on a passed ball.Carl Knecht roped a fourth inning double and Matt Montelione added a single in the fifth.

Owen Andrews was the Braves’ starter and eventually absorbed the loss. Chudik relieved in the fifth and closed things out.

Damascus drops into the losers’ bracket and faces a long road back to the final. The Braves will take on Forest City, which suffered a 10-2 loss at the hands of Elegante.

That contest is slated for a 6:00 p.m. start at Joe Cobb Memorial Field.
