For Such a Time
as This
There was a time in history that God took a poor Jewish orphan girl and made her the queen of the most powerful empire on earth, the gentile nation of Media-Persia. Her name was Esther, and because of her physical beauty and the beauty of her heart, she was chosen by King Xerxes to be his wife. No one in the palace knew that she was Jewish.
One day King Xerxes’ highest noble in the court, Haman, became angry with a man named Mordecai. No one knew that he was Queen Esther’s uncle. Haman devised a plot that would not only kill Mordecai, but would also exterminate all the Jews in the kingdom. He got the king to agree, and a date was chosen for this to take place.
When Mordecai learned of this decree, he got word to Queen Esther and urged her to go to the king to beg mercy and plead for the lives of her people. She told Mordecai that she could be put to death for approaching the king without being summoned. But he convinced her that she must not remain silent at this time, saying, “And who knows that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).
Esther agreed, and told Mordecai to have all the Jews fast and pray for three days. God did intervene in the situation and saved the Jews from extermination. Mordecai had been right. Queen Esther had been placed in her position at just the right time for a specific purpose – to save her people.
What position has God placed you in? God may have bigger plans for your life than you do. He sometimes places us in positions of leadership or influence to fulfill His specific purposes. God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things for Him.
As we enter this new year, many are tired of the same old rut they’ve been in for so long. Maybe it’s time to look at our lives in a different light, and seek God as to what He could do through us in the position we find ourselves.
Or perhaps it’s time for a change. Perhaps God is ready to move us into the position that He has been planning for us to accomplish His plans and purposes for such a time as this. God has reserved us for this time and this place to make a difference. We need to be willing to move forward into that position.
As we surrender our lives, hopes, dreams and plans to God, He will move us to the position He has for us. That is the place of true fulfillment – being in the center of God’s will – at the right time and in the right place.
