Another View: A weekend in Wayne County

It’s another weekend in Wayne County.

You know the drill. Saturday is filled with chores and maybe taking in an event; Sunday is a rest day.

Last weekend was all that for me here in Honesdale.

Out of bed, I hit the downtown running — well, actually walking — heading to Laurel’s Coffee Grinder for my usual breakfast of scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast and scrapple with coffee of course.

There, bringing along two newspapers to read, I ran into Wayne Independent Advertising Director Ben Tucker and his wife Gail, who just happens to run the Greater Honesdale Partnership.

Before that, though, there were errands to run.

I dropped into the Honesdale National bank to cash a check. Then off to nearby CVS to buy a few newspapers. I also picked up my dry cleaning at Spotless and dropped off another pile of shirts.

After breakfast, I headed to Music and Video Express and picked up the new Ringo Starr CD. I walked along Main Street for a little while and took a look around the Wayne County Farmers Market before heading to the Post Office.

I was a little tired from visiting the Wayne County Fair the night before. There, to see all the action of the fair’s first night, I grabbed a hot dog, then had a cheesesteak and finished it off with a bag of Kettle Korn.

By mid-day Saturday, I had headed out of county to scout out Clarks Summit and then do some shopping before landing in Waymart for Waystock. What a great event! I listened to a few bands and toured the area where the vendors were selling their goods. I picked up a soft pretzel, bought a cup of lemonade at a little girl’s stand and grabbed a cool-looking, tie-dye 2010 Waystock T-shirt.

I thought about going to the fair again but there was a lot of traffic. So I took a quick nap instead.

The afternoon was getting late and I was getting hungry. It was time for dinner. I headed over to China Castle for some takeout. As the evening progressed, I figured it was time for ice cream. So I took a nice drive on Route 191 to Lake Ariel and got a twist at Kay’s.

My day was complete.

Sunday was filled with more of the same.

I slept in and then went to Weniger’s variety store for two Sunday newspapers. Next, I hit up Turkey Hill for my daily dose of coffee and then back to the Delaware and Hudson Hotel to finish off my Laurel’s breakfast from the day before.

The rest of the day was spent doing some more shopping locally.

It was another weekend in Wayne County, another weekend of visits that all of you make to places and events both locally and around the region.

I look forward to more weekends like this one.
