Sportsman’s group backs Steelman
To the Editor:
I thought that it would be appropriate, at this time, to put some thoughts together on Mark Steelman who is running for the office of Sheriff of Wayne County.
Our association with him came about several years ago when we began to interface with Sheriff Morelli relative to various topics and things that come about when dealing with a gun club. At all times when the Sheriff was away from the office, Mark could and would step in and help us.
It was obvious that the Sheriff was teaching Mark and grooming him to step up into the Sheriff's job when that became necessary and it did. With the passing of the Sheriff, Mark stepped up and the Sheriff's office continued to work because of the seamless transition that Mark was able to bring to the job.
Since then we have had several interactions with Mark and we always found him to be interested, Community minded and capable. Several times we spoke about what we could do better in our efforts to train our County youths in the safe handling and use of firearms. Mark's help led us to extend some of our programs and streamline others.
If the people of Wayne County are interested in a man who can carry on the work of the Sheriff with little or no additional training but also with an eye on the future then they need to look no further than Mark Steelman.
