Texas Twp. needs to respect its people
To the Editor:
You won't see this reported in the press. The Wayne Independent was absent from the township meeting on Nov. 2, 2009; and this is just one reason for placing Township Minutes online.
Monday night, Supervisors were presented with a petition to place the Township's Agenda and Minutes online. 397 residents or 99% of those presented with the petition, signed it. Of the five who didn't sign, most work at local government jobs and felt their livelihood could be threatened. The signatures were gathered because Supervisor Doney said "no one is interested". It has been almost two years of attempts to get the supervisors to respond to the will of its citizens.
The Board’s recommendation to place the Agenda and Minutes online was ignored and not even addressed. This is a slap in the face. It is not what our Democracy is about: A government OF, BY, and FOR the people.
Supervisors Jack McDonald, Donald Doney, and Allan Wickle, what is at issue here? What are you afraid of? Your inaction makes one wonder if there is something to hide?
At future meetings I will continue to ask the supervisors to Stand Up and Be Counted on this issue. We the people deserve RESPECT... we deserve a response for the record.
Georgette Pascotto
Texas Township Resident
P.S. Township Meetings are the first and third Monday of the month at 7:30 p.m.
To the 397 people who signed the petition and to others who did not have an opportunity: we need YOU to be present at the next meeting where we will ask the Supervisors once again, to vote on the petition.
