To the Editor:
The current race for Sheriff in Wayne County is of great concern to me. A matter of public knowledge, is a pending Federal Lawsuit concerning the wrongful treatment of a female deputy against Wayne County. I have serious questions concerning the duties of the Chief Deputy at that time, since we all now know how sick Sheriff Morelli was. I personally feel that we need a change in the Sheriff's office, at least until this lawsuit is settled, since our acting Sheriff (and a candidate in the upcoming election), was Chief Deputy during the time frame of this lawsuit. As a taxpayer, I have no doubt that these legal problems will cost us an enormous amount of taxpayer dollars. How much time will be spent in legal wrangling back and forth, and how can a Sheriff do his job when so much time will go into these proceedings?
Mike O'Day is also running for the position of Sheriff of Wayne County on November 3rd. His 35 years experience in law enforcement also includes extensive training in handling employees in the work force. He has had extensive experience working with all types of people, including those of different ethnic backgrounds and also different genders. Since he is not part of this pending lawsuit, he will be better able to serve the voters of Wayne County as our Sheriff. He has agreed not to take any pension or medical benefits if elected...saving us taxpayers more than $10,000 over these next two years. My opinion is that Mike O'Day will serve us well in the capacity of Sheriff of Wayne County, and is in our best interest as taxpayers.
