To the Editor:
In reply to Mr. Franklin's March 22, 2008 article regarding his replies to questions raised.
1. Regarding the nuts and bolts deal with vender VenMar: the package deal was 1960 nuts, bolts, and washers for $1019. Of 1960 pieces 175 nuts and bolts were grade8 and 200 washers were grade 8. The rest of the package was below Vz inch diameter size and was grade 5, the same as the resident priced out at Home Depot. All 1960 items would have cost $400.00 at Home Depot. Does this mean that the grade 8 items are worth $600.00??????
At the meeting on the 18th of March the supervisors were asked if they had shopped around and the reply was "NO!"
2. As for the reference regarding the tax anticipation loan: Last winter the township had to take a $45,000.00 loan out to cover the bills for the winter months. At the January 2007 reorganization meeting the supervisors raised the real estate tax and the machinery tax in the township so they would longer have to borrow money each year. Mr. Franklin was a supervisor at this lime and voted to raise the taxes!!!!!!!
3. As for the new supervisors inheriting the economical and equipment situation, Mr. Franklin has worked for this township for seven years, and has been a supervisor since Jan 3, 2006. He had to aware of the situations and the condition of the equipment!!!!!!!!
4. Since Mr. Franklin owns no property in this township therefore does not add to the tax base.
5. Isn 't it time these supervisors are held accountable/or their actions and watch over the taxpayers money, not spend it foolishly.
Sincerely yours
Concerned resident taxpayers
Bailie Rutherford (Berlin Twp. resident)
