Wanted: A mayor and member of the council in the borough of Honesdale.
Qualifications: Live in the borough limits and have an interest in promoting the betterment of the borough.
Compensation: Very little.
Benefits: Helping your home town; many headaches.
There’s little question the issues facing Honesdale Borough are monumental. The task will not be easy.
But now is your chance to help make a difference. Resumes are currently being accepted for these open positions and everyone is encouraged to apply. All you have to do is drop an application off at borough hall next week and you’ll be considered by the council. It’s that simple.
We believe this is a golden opportunity for people to step up to the plate and show they are interested in helping out.
Too many times, people moan and groan about their elected leaders but that’s where it ends. All you have to do is look at some of the commentors on our website. It can be a tough crowd — and merciless. There are probably a dozen or so who seem to have something to say about most issues, especially those related to Honesdale Borough.
So maybe a few of them will come forward and apply for one of the open positions. Hopefully, a couple already have since the borough has received two applications for mayor and three for the open council position. We hope they’ll get at least 10 for each.
The borough has been under the microscope in recent months and it seems everyone has an opinion. Now is the chance for people to voice their opinions openly and honestly. Almost all say they care about the future of Honesdale so what better way to show it than becoming a public servant?
You all know where borough hall is located. Get that resume together and drop it off. We’ll be watching.
