On the left side of this page today you will find a new feature in the newspaper.
It’s called “Wayne Highland Highlights” and features news and happenings from the school district. It will appear each Thursday in The Wayne Independent.
We are very excited about starting this new feature to showcase the talents of our young people, and the educators, in the school system. Too many times people complain young people these days are lazy and will not amount to a hill of beans.
But if you look at just this initial column, written by Superintendent Greg Frigoletto, you’ll see there are some very positive things happening — and this is just one of many examples. Too many to ever fit once a week in this space.
However, we believe that by highlighting each week something positive happening in the district, it will give the public an entirely new look at the inner workings of the school district. We think it may open a few eyes and give insight of how the educational system is working in this neck of the woods.
It’s very easy to criticize the district about money or some other complaint, but we feel the other side of that equation should be showcased as well.
We can’t thank Frigoletto enough for his willingness to partner with us to get the word out about the educational system so many of our children and grandchildren are relying on to push them toward a successful future. We began having the conversation with Frigoletto just a little over a month ago and he set the wheels in motion very quickly.
The column will be written by various people within the district and showcase all of the schools and students at those schools. We’re not sure what’s coming next, but we will look forward every week to seeing the many things which are taking place.
It is true that school districts consume the largest share of tax dollars. But we believe educating our children is of the highest calling and the resources should be used for the students. That doesn’t mean we won’t report about issues where things might be amiss, because we will. However, we also strive very hard to get out all of the positive activities being conducted at area schools.
We feature photos and stories almost on a daily basis which relate to schools in our area and will continue to do so. We think this new feature is just one more way to highlight our students and educators.
