"Why is the Farview Site so historical?"
Continued from my last column
The D&H Canal Company converted the railroad to steam power in 1900. The D&H in 1907 deeded to the Commonwealth 613 acres for $5.00. The Brick House stands on 3 of these acres. The Aqua Water Company has over 250 acres and other acreage is owned by a group of property owners including the Common- wealth. The Brick House was built in 1912 by the Commonwealth of PA to house guards for the Farview State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. Many traveled on the D&H Steam Railroad and stayed for their four day shifts. * The D&H Rail Bed has been designated since the 1960's as a National Registry of Historical Places eligible property.
Needless to say the Farview property will not only enhance  Waymart Area Historical Society's historic mission but will also provide a significant challenge. A committee is being formed to evaluate the property and develop an action plan on the steps that need to be taken for its full use. They are looking for volunteers and ideas. If you are interested in being part of this committee, please contact an officer. If you live far away or can't serve on the committee they still need your suggestions. Email Jane at janev@socantel.net or call (570) 488-6750. Notes and ideas can also be mailed to the Waymart Area Historical Society, PO Box 255, Waymart PA, 18472.
Waymart Calvary Administrative Council will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, October 26th at 7:30 p.m.
Thought for this week: A really good parent is a provider, a counselor, an adviser, and when necessary, a disciplinarian.
The Clinton Township Planning Commission will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 28th, 7 p.m., at the Municipal Building in Aldenville.
Handy hints: Pastry Pointers.
* For an exact measurement when measuring sifted flour, never shake the flour level. Instead, use the back of a knife to scrape it level.
* Toss the ingredients with a fork lightly and quickly, rather than stirring them, which creates a tough pastry.
* Try rolling some grated cheese into pastry dough when making the pie.
* For the flakiest upper crust on pies, brush lightly with cold water just before popping in the oven. Melts in your mouth.
* When sharing a round pie between 5 people, cut the pie into the shape of a Y. Then cut the large pieces in half.
Happy birthday

This week’s joke:
A man in his eighties moved to a new town and joined the local golf club. When he went there hoping to play his first round, he was told that all the tee times were booked for that day. Seeing his disappointment, the assistant professional offered to let the old man join him on his round and suggested a twelve-stroke handicap.
The old man said: "I really don't need a handicap. The only real problem I have is getting out of bunkers."
Both men played well and coming to the final hole, a short par-three, the scores were even. The pro landed his tee shot on the edge of the green, but the old man put his drive into a greenside bunker. Steading himself in the sand, the octogen- arian then played a superb bunker shot that ended with the ball in the hole.
The assistant pro was stunned. "Great shot, but I thought you said you have a problem getting out of bunkers."
"I do," replied the old man. "Give me a hand."
Keep smiling.

This week’s question:
What baseball team got its name because of a second baseman named Louis Bierbauer?
Answer: The Pittsburgh Pirates. The team--which had gone through a variety of names including the Alleghenies, Potato Bugs, Zulus and Smoked Italians--earned the name by "pirating" Bierbauer away from the Philadelphia Athletics.
Sympathy to the family of Francis Lopatofsky, Waymart, who passed away on Sunday, October 11th at the Forest City Nursing Home. He was a 1959 graduate of Waymart High School.
Its getting darker and darker every night and soon on Sunday, November 1st the clocks will be turned back 1 hour, as Daylight Saving Time will end, and it will be dark at suppertime.
Differences Between You and Your Boss: When you take a long time, you're slow. When your boss takes a long time, he's thorough.
Have a nice week.
