Ticks are sure plentiful this year. I have heard that they leave red spots on the skin on some. Ticks attack humans, dogs, cats, and other animals. Most ticks are found in grassy or brushy areas. The brown dog tick may drop off in households and establish itself in the home. They sink their heads and mouthparts into the flesh. If left alone, they could continue to suck blood for as many as 15 days before dropping off. Ticks transmit several human diseases, one being Lyme disease.. Lyme disease, carried by deer ticks, was first diagnosed in 1970 and has spread across the United States since then. Ticks can live for up to 18 months without food or water.
When ticks are sharply pulled or brushed off the skin, their mouthparts usually break off, remaining embedded in the flesh. This may cause small ulcers or infections to develop in the wounded areas. There are no foolproof methods to make a tick withdraw its mouthparts, but the recommended way is to slowly and steadily pull the tick from the skin then wash the area with soap and water. Remember to check yourself every night in case you might have picked up a tick while working or playing outside.

Handy hint: K-9 Ideas!
Bathtime-- Fill a tub with warm water and put a rubber mat on the bottom for secure footing.
Put cotton in your dog's ears to keep out water and a little petroleum jelly around his eyes to protect them from soap.
Add a little baking soda to the rinse water to make your pet's coat softer, shinier, and odor-free.
Baking soda or dry cornmeal is a good dry shampoo for any furry pet. Rub it in well, then brush it out. Baking soda is a deodorizer, too.
For quick drying after bathtime use a blow dryer with the temperature set at warm, not hot.
It has been said that Brewer's yeast rubbed on your dog's coat prevents fleas.

This week’s joke:
A woman was trying to get the ketchup to come out of the bottle. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her four-year-old daughter to answer it.
"Mommy, it's the minister," said the little girl.
"Tell him I won't be a moment," called out the mother. So the little girl said: "Mommy can't come to the phone right now. She's hitting the bottle."
Keep Smiling!
