WAYMART -

I'm still waiting for the little turtle eggs to hatch out.
As I wrote in my column recently, two big turtles layed their eggs in front of our house in the soft dirt where I just planted my flowers. I wonder how long it takes for them to hatch. In most species the head, legs, and tail can be completely withdrawn into the shell. Their legs are modified to adapt them to their habitat, taking the form of flippers in the sea turtles and walking legs in the land forms. Both sea and fresh water turtles return to land to lay their eggs; they lay numerous eggs (100 to 250) in a hollow in the sand or soft dirt and then leave them to be hatched by the sun. Maybe it will take a lot longer for them to hatch as we get a lot more rain instead of steady sunlight.
Laurel Chapter 67, OES will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 9th, 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge in Waymart.
Thought for this week: When you hear about somebody who took a financial beating in the market, they might be talking about the supermarket.
Car 43 to be dedicated
Don't forget to mark your calendar on Saturday, July 26th when that will be the celebration for the arrival of D&H Gravity Car 43. It has taken 10 years to complete but the end results the Waymart Area Historical Society has quoted are magnificent. This replica/restored Car they said would certainly make the D&H Canal Co. and Gravity Railroad Corporation proud.
In July, Car 43 will be transported on a flatbed supplied by Bill Kerl. On arrival it will be placed in its permanent home, the Train Car Shed next to the D&H Gravity Railroad Depot. Celebrate with the Historical Society on July 26th with a grand tour of Car 43 and Open House at the Depot.
The Waymart Area Historical Society is also sponsoring a "Spring Into Summer-Bring Car #43 Home" Raffle. Twenty one really nice Prizes and a Grand Prize, a Toro Z380 Riding Mower will be given away. Chances are $2.00 each, or a book of five for $10.00. If you want more chances or for some reason you didn't get any in the mail you can e-mail Jane Varcoe at janev@socantel.net, call (570)488-6750 or call Barbara Holmes at (570)488-6134.
Handy hint: Inexpensive Gift Ideas!
Many telephone companies offer gift certificates they will mall to whomever you wish. This is a perfect way to let friends and relatives know that you'd love to hear from them. The recipient simply mails in the coupon in place of money with the monthly telephone bill. Call your local phone company for more information.
For the new bride: Fill an address book with addresses and phone numbers of relatives and friends, and add a special section for birthdays and anniversaries.
The kids will love this one. Roll up a dollar bill and insert it into a balloon. Mail it along in a card with instructions to blow up and pop, or insert an invitation to a party with the same instructions to blow up and pop.
When a friend requests a special recipe, you can turn it into a special occasion by giving one of the expensive ingredients along with a copy of the recipe.
Waymart American Legion Unit 889 will hold their monthly meeting along with the Auxiliary on Thursday, July 10th at 7 p.m. at the Post Home in Waymart.

This week’s joke:
An old couple stopped at a roadside restaurant for lunch on their way to the coast. After returning to the car, they had driven about ten miles down the road when the woman suddenly remembered that she had left her glasses in the restaurant.
The old man was not happy about having to turn the car around and head back to the restaurant. "How could you forget your glasses?" he moaned, "This is a detour I could really have done without. By the time we get to the coast, it will be time to head back home again! What a waste of time!"
He was still complaining bitterly when they pulled up again outside the restaurant. As his wife got out of the car, he grumbled: "While you're in there, you may as well get my hat too."
Keep smiling!

It must be difficult for the farmers to get their hay dry as we are getting showers almost every day.
Remember: A gardener raises a few things, a farmer raises many things, and the middleman raises everything.
Get well wishes to Staff Sgt. Michael Kacer, Jr., Wayiaart, who was seriously injured while serving in Afghanistan.
Have a nice week and may everyone have a Safe and Happy Fourth of July Holiday!
