WAYMART -

PUT YOUR FLAG OUT SATURDAY
Put your flags on display this Saturday June 14th, as it is Flag Day. Although it is not a legal holiday. Flag Day is observed in the United States as the anniversary of the adoption, in 1777, of the American Flag. There will be many Parades, including one in Waymart. On June 14th, 1777 the Flag had 13 stars. On the admission of every new State into the Union, one star was added to the union of the flag. At the time of the War with Mexico (1846) the American flag contained twenty-nine stars. At the time of the Civil War the flag contained thirty- four stars, including those of the seceding States. By the time of the Spanish-American War (1898) the flag contained forty- five stars. The forty-ninth and fiftieth stars were added in 1959 and 1960, respectively, when Alaska and Hawaii were admitted to the Union.
The Waymart Volunteer Ambulance Corps will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, June 16th at 7 p.m. at their garage.
Thought for this week: It seems that kids start smoking cigarettes because they thought it was smart. Why don't they stop smoking for the same reason?
The Waymart Lions Club will meet on Tuesday, June 17th.
The Western Wayne Booster Club will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 18th at 7 p.m. in the Western Wayne High School cafeteria.
Handy hint: Broom care!
Stiffen the bristles of a new broom by soaking them in hot salt water.
To renew the shape of an old broom, put a large rubber band around the bottom.
Put a hook in the end of your broomstick and hang it in your cleaning closet. If you stand a broom on end, it might ruin the bristles.
Cut the finger off an old rubber glove and slide it over the handle. The broom won't fall down if you have to lean it against the wall for a moment.
The Robert D. Wilson PTA will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, June 19th.
Happy Birthday on June 19th to Maureen Yakupein, Christine McClure, Bobby Vinton, Dustin Smith, Bill Hott, Brynn Decker, Mariah Lynne Avery, Annette Ciarrocchi, Cindy Davitt, and Susan Schweinsburg.
June 20th: Emma Lou Varcoe, Dorothy Baldwin, James Cartwright, Betty Baldwin, Harriet Bayly, Emily Carney, Alan Gillette, Gary Podunajec, and Joanne Shannon.
June 21st: Melissa Faatz, Marilyn Grimm, Joe Henshaw, Anna Katherine Boguski, Artie Kreutz, Lisa Bellis, Jackson Palkovic, Manuel Vega.
June 22nd: Mike Boguski, Wade H. Keen, and Lisa Eitz.
June 23rd: Randy Thorpe, Joan Blaker, Kenneth Keast, Matthew Iverson, and Robert F. Phillips.
June 24th: Adam Thompson, Tom Martzen, Lori Thorpe, Amanda Eroh, Tammy James, Christopher M. Jones, Louise Kostick, Donna Lewis, Christine Lutz, Robert Minor, Mary Ballard, and Rusty Young.
Joke for this week:
A muscular young man working on a construction site kept bragging that he was the strongest member of the gang. After a while his boasting began to irritate the older workers to the point that one issued him with a challenge.
"It's time to put your money where your mouth is," said the older worker. "I'll bet a week's wages that I can haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you won't be able to wheel back."
"You're on," said the young man, already mentally counting his winnings.
So the older worker grabbed a wheelbarrow by the handles and said to the young man. "Okay. Get in ..."
Keep Smiling!
Enjoy yourself this Saturday, June 14th, (Flag Day), for the Pride and Patriotism Parade in Waymart. The parade line- up will be at the Robert D. Wilson School at 12 noon, and will start at 1 p.m. A veteran's program will follow in Wayside Park with bagpipers and bands. Junior Wildcats will sell food along the parade route along with other vendors wishing to sell food or mementos and/or treasures.
Where do big turtles lay their eggs? Anywhere they want to! I had just recently planted my flowers in front of our house when the next morning I looked out the window and two great big turtles were laying their eggs right there in the nice soft dirt right by the many flattened flowers where they walked through. They stayed there quite some time so they must have laid a lot of eggs, then they left. They say turtles are slow but they sure did leave fast when they were done laying their eggs. It was sad to see my flowers, that I grew from seed, laying in ruins, but it was an amazing experience of nature to see!
