St. Johns Alter & Rosary Society would like to thank everyone that support the walk-a-thon for the Kneier Family held on Sept. 26th. The walk and the bake sale sponsored by the Confirmation Class was a great success. We thank you, all that took part.
Congratulations to Stephen Simpson of Lakewood for receiving a continuous membership certificate for 60 years and a Gold Citizenship award for outstanding service both military and civilian.
Simpson is a Veteran of World War II and was interred in a German prisoner of War Camp. These awards were presented to Steve by the Six Star American Legion Post #209 of Lakewood on Sept. 20th at the Legion’s dinner at Starlight Lake. Newly elected Officers for the forthcoming year are: Bob Snigochi, Commander; Walt Smith, Vice Commander; Ron Buell, Adjutant; Steve Simpson, Treasurer; Rev. Duane Giles, Chaplain; Nick Possenato, Sgt.-at-Arms. John Wenk was also honored for his Eagle Scout project.
Congratulations to Aaron and Megan Wormuth who were married on Saturday, Sept. 26th.
Congratulations to Martin Medved, son of Lillian and the late Martin Medved of Orson and Laura Lee daughter of Gale and Katherine Shaw, upon their wedding on Saturday October 3rd in Orson United Methodist Church. Pastor Ed Cameron performed the ceremony and Linda Dix Lee was organist. Matron of honor was Dee Dabassi, bridesmaid Margo Dabassi, flower girl was Mary Kate Yatsonsky; best man Steve Tourje; Usher Russ Labor; a fabulous reception was held after the service at one of the farms huge machinery buildings. It was beautifully decorated, round tables and orchids on each table. The cake was a three tier and they also had a to international tractor pulling a toy manure spreader along side the cake. If you had a sweet tooth, that was the place to be. Along one wall was plate after plate with all kinds of chocolate candy and little bags for you to fill up and take home. It was a very down to earth reception. Everyone visiting with one another, nibbling on cheese and veggies waiting for the bride and groom to come. The dinner (buffet) catered by the Beacon Restaurant was scrumptious and after the dinner the music started and all enjoyed dancing. A good time was had by all.
Charles and Roxanna Snigar have returned home after spending a week in Carson City, Nevada. Visiting her brother Emerson Albertson. Charlie says it is good to be home, the land is too brown out there.
Congratulations to Kevin Zablocky and Sarah Mech upon their marriage on Saturday, October 10th in St. Juliana’s Church, Rock Lake. The newlyweds will reside at Honesdale, RD.
The Ladies Aux. of Pleasant Mount EMS will be holding a chicken & Biscuit Dinner on Sunday, October 18th from noon until sold out at the Belmont Fire Hall.
Roller Skating will be held every Sunday at the Pleasant Mt. Community Center from 3 -6 p.m. starting on October 11th until Memorial Weekend. Cost $2.00. Have to have your own skates. For more info call 488-2686. This will be good for the kids as they had roller skating in Lake Como Community Hall on Friday’s but since Wayne Health (Wayne Memorial) has bought that building and will soon be remodeling. Roller skating will cease and maybe some parents will bring their children to Pleasant Mount.
Congratulations to Kristen Nicole Gill, of Hancock, NY., daughter of Cynthia Gill and Jason Gustin, and Preston Park. son of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Gusten upon their recent engagement. The wedding is planned for June 12th, 2010.
The Partnership of Mt. Pleasant Twp. & Preston Twp. have announced a series of public meetings scheduled through their local planning commissions to update citizens in the progress of a Multi Municipial Comprehensive planning effort understanding within the communities. The purpose of the meeting is to solicit insight from the community at large concerning the Multi Municipal Comprehensive Plan. The public meeting is as follows: Monday, November 2nd at Preston School at 7 p.m. and Wednesday November 4th at Pleasant Mt. Community Center at 7 p.m. Questions: Contact Mary Ann Llewellyn at 798-2144 or Eleanor McGraw at 448-2569. This plan consists of background statues and a draft set of goals and objectives for land use, community facilities and transportation.
Flu shot clinics being held next week are: Monday, October 19th - Monday, 7:30 - 10 a.m. at Damascus Community Twp. Bldg. and on Thursday, October 22nd, 9 a.m..- Noon at the Pike County Senior Center. Many people are getting sick, with runny noses or head colds. It’s best to stay away from crowds if you can and covering your mouth when you have a cough; wash your hands.
