"Hey, do these pants make me look like Homer Simpson from the side?" Yeah, I have asked a friend that question!
I have also personally wondered how it can be that summer clothes mysteriously shrink every winter?
When Michelle Hessling asked me to take part in 'Weight no More' and be the female blogger, I jumped at it. Here was my chance to rekindle my passion for self improvement, and I could lose the weight I gained after having my baby. (I should probably mention that my baby is 15!!) Like so many of us, I am a curvy girl, and over time I have come to embrace that- but I certainly want to be my personal best.
So on Friday I headed over to the Honesdale YMCA for the official, initial weigh-in. I stripped off my socks and shoes, necklace, earrings.... Unable to remove my dental fillings, I finally stepped on the scale. I told myself, "Girl, get a good look because you are never going to see that number again." (Hearing that in my head prevented the need for smelling salts)
Taking a tour of the gym, I was lucky enough to meet last year's contest winner, Christine, and she was really generous with tips and encouragement!
My thoughts then turned to 'diet' which I don't want to be a 'diet' at all. Atkins, South Beach, Lo Carb, No Carb, Zone, yadda yadda. I don't think they are going to work for me. I plan to take a much more radical approach: MODERATION. One cookie is not the enemy. TEN cookies is the enemy. (Trust me- I have been ambushed.) There will come a day when I will find myself face to face with a bagel down a dark alley, and I will have to deal with it! That's real life.
I'm thinking- depriving yourself of everything sets up a binge.
So I am bent on finding healthy, delicious options at all my favorite haunts here in town- Branko's, Umpy's, even Day's! If I lock myself away from the day-to-day places I love, I won't enjoy success. I know me by now. Also going to bring my reading 'goggles' to the supermarket for the tiny print on all those labels!
Embarking on a 13 week journey like this is a real commitment, but doesn't it seem like the promises we make to ourselves are the easiest ones to break? Not so with this --not with the whole town watching and hopefully reading! The Cookie Police will be everywhere! (Put down the Oreo and back away slowly...) I welcome all hints and hopes anyone has to offer!!
It's really going to be so important to stay positive and upbeat. You know, I truly believe that women are beautiful in all shapes and sizes--but the chance to feel more confident and alive in our skin--to be energized and enjoy good health- these are gifts we all deserve.
I am so excited to put in the effort and be a part of this amazing group! Bring it on!!!
