Cathy Hunt is in line to be the first female supervisor in Berlin Township.

In a phone interview Wednesday, Hunt thanked Democratic competitor Scott Taninies for running a clean race and welcomed his continued employment on the township road crew.

Hunt defeated her opponent 359 votes to 277, securing a two-year supervisory term. She’s been employed as township secretary/ treasurer for the past 14 years.

Asked what she’d like to see for the township, Hunt spoke about the roadways. “People are always concerned about their roads, and you welcome ideas,” she said. “We’re losing a lot of our blacktop. That’s discouraging when you’re a taxpayer.” Referring to past supervisor Phil Dux’s suggestion of starting a paving maintenance fund, Hunt said it would be a good place to start.
Cathy and husband Ron are married 15 years and live in Indian Orchard.

“A lot of people worked really hard for Cathy, and I’m thrilled that she got elected. Scott Taninies is a fine young gentleman and I’m sure someday he’ll make a real good supervisor,”said Berlin Township Supervisor Paul Henry. “Even though you don’t like to lose, it’s good to have good, qualified people running.”

Henry, who was appointed two years ago to fill the late Roger Hector’s remaining term, successfully secured a 6-year supervisory seat. He says he’ll concentrate on road improvements and possibly sending out a zoning questionnaire to “get the sentiment of the residents.” Other than that, he said, “It’s business as ususal—try to serve the people.”

Paul and his wife Karen are married 21 years and reside in Beach Lake.
