Aqua Pennsylvania Inc. reported a small water main break on 7th Street in Honesdale Borough, Saturday morning. A crew from Pioneer Construction is seen assisting Aqua in the repairs, at about 11 a.m. Water was expected to be restored in "about an hour." Meanwhile, a water boiling notice is in effect.
According to the bright yellow-green flier posted on doorways in the nearby neighborhood, water customers are told to not drink the water without boiling it first. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
As a precaution the Pa. Department of Environmental Protection require that acceptable bacteria sample results be obtained from sets of samples collected on two consecutive days before the boil water notice can be lifted.
